At my work I am so lucky to have a fully stocked kitchen just waiting for me to satisfy any craving. Problem? Eating to satisfy every craving is not a good idea if you’re trying to watch your waistline!
I mean picture a CEREAL DISPENSER full of peanut M&M’s. Yep. And an entire fridge filled with soda (which I don’t like anyway…so I guess that’s not a big deal.) One shelf taller than me filled with chips of every variety from Funions to Baked Potato Chips. It’s bad….
So I will either take the healthy snacks there, or bring my own to help with any cravings!
Here are a few of my go-to’s:
1. Apple w/ Cinnamon Nut Butter
I take about a 1/2 cup of Unsweetened Natural Peanut Butter – or Almond Butter. Whatever I happen to have on hand. I mix in about 1-2 Tbsp of cinnamon. (That’s a lot for some people, so just add as much as you like. I just like a lot!) I’ll put it in a container and take it to work. Then for the next few days I’ll bring an apple to cut up and eat with it!
2. Green Smoothie
I LOVE smoothies. I’ve been making them since I was about 12. My early favorites were fruit only, but in the last 5 years I’ve found many green smoothies that I love. A green smoothie is a great snack for busy girls who find it hard to find time to eat all their greens! I’ll be sharing some favorite smoothie recipes soon, so keep an eye out for that!
3. Pepper Roll-Ups
For this one, I julienne some small sweet peppers. Then I’ll take a piece or two of the deli meat and spread some laughing cow or plain cream cheese on it. I place some peppers in it and roll it up like a burrito! It’s a nice snack with a little protein!
Ok, ok…. it’s not real cheesecake. But it really reminds me of it! I put a cup of cottage cheese in a container and top it with homemade granola or Grape Nuts. Then I pile berries of some sort on top. (For this snack, I actually prefer blueberries! I feel like I can keep it in the fridge multiple days and it just tastes better each day!) The moisture in the container softens the granola and it ends up being like a crust for the fruit cheesecake! Yum!
5. Peaches and Pistachios
This one I eat multiple ways. I’ll either just eat a whole peach and pop some pistachios in my mouth in between bites. OR I’ll put a little greek yogurt in a bowl, cut the peach and put it in, and then top with pistachios. I just really love the flavor combo or the peach and pistachios!
